In 2015, the Mirboo North Secondary College applied to the Foundation for a community grant to support the creation of a set of class Marimbas for use within classroom and instrumental curriculum projects. The completed Marimbas would then become a part of the instrument resources at high school, providing an opportunity for students to create and participate in making music during regular class times as well as lunchtimes and special events.
The school was hoping that the Marimba project would form part of a greater project ‘Resonance’ where students will continue to explore the process of designing, making and then playing musical instruments which are made from materials readily found in the student’s every day lives.
The ‘Symphony for Tractor’ project component was reliant on their success in applying for a Creative Arts Victoria grant, which they were recently successful in their application. The combined programs will provide an opportunity for students to be involved in creative activities.
