Gaming whats excessive

If you are interested in considering how gaming impacts your kids and their family relationships, Mirboo North Secondary College is hosting a seminar for parents by Steve Dupon of the Institute of Games on Thursday 14th March between 7pm and 8.30pm.

The Institute of Games promises an engaging proactive seminar which will create opportunities for parents to learn about

  • why video games are so captivating (dopamine, brain development, rewards schedules);
  • how video games fit in today’s youth culture (compared to when parents where young);
  • the risks and opportunities involved with gaming (violent games, cybersafety, learning).
  • Difference between normal adolescent behaviour and problematic gaming

Their goal is for every parent to walk out with a plan on how to best manage video gaming at home.

These student / teacher and parent sessions on gaming by Steve Dupon are part of South Gippsland Shire Council’s Community Champions Go Gambling Free project.  This project is a collaboration between South Gippsland Shire Council and the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, which involves educating the community to develop a whole of population approach to reduce harm from gambling and raise awareness of the potential harms that are faced by young people undertaking excessive gaming .
