Give

Bequests

A gift in your will to the Community Foundation ensures an on-going legacy within your community, directed at an area close to your heart

Why leave a gift in your will?

Due to the careful stewardship of the invested funds by the Community Foundation, perpetual bequests and donations grow significantly over time.
  • A gift in a will can leave a long-term legacy if it is perpetual.
  • We can leave to our family and friends and still give to the palce or community that we love.
  • More and more people are including gifts in their wills because it creates a legacy beyond their lifetime that has a positive impact for the causes or communities that matter more to them.
  • We can give a future gift through our wills without impacting our current financial position.
A $10,000 donation will grow to $44,000 and grant oour community $45,000 over a 50 year period. (based on our averate rate of return over the past 10 years and a distribution rate of 4%).

"While leaving a gift in a will has no impact on us, it will make a tangible difference to the things that are important to us..."

  • We connect people who care, like you, with the causes that matter to you in our community.
  • We are a trusted organisation that will always be here to secure your legacy.
  • We are both responsive and strategic in granting to build stronger communities in our district.
  • We have a strong knowledge of and connection with the community organisations and charities doing good things in our district.
  • We are part of a world-wide movement that turns gifts into a permanent fianancial asset for the community.
  • Some popel say that leaving a give to the community is like leaving a gift to a child – you don’t know what that child is going to need as it grows but you want to provide for a good future. The Community Foundation will always be there to achieve that.

Create your legacy in our community

Step 1 - Talk to the people you trust

Speak to your family and / or friends about your intention to leave a gift in your will, so that everyone is on the same page

Step 2 - Select your Cause (s)

Decide how you want your fund to be used – for specific organisations or causes or for general purposes. Your legacy can target something you are passionate about or simply be used at a future time to respond to unforeseen community challenges or opportunities.

Step 3 - Name your Fund

Would you like to give the Fund your name or your family’s name or it can be named after something that is meaningful to you. It can also be anonymous and go into an existing Fund focused on a particular cause.

Step 4 - Make your bequest

This is about adding some particular wording into your new or existing will which specifies how much the gift is and how it should be used. Seek legal advice to make sure your intention is correctly captured and will have the impact you envisage.
