Together We Thrive

The Mirboo North and District Community Foundation was set up in 2010 to invest the proceeds of the sale of the community owned Mirboo North Community Aged Care Facility, the earnings from which investments are distributed to the community through its grants programs.

Further to this the Community Foundation has a Public Ancillary Fund that can receive donations which will also be distributed within the community at the Board’s discretion, taking the donors recommendation into account. Great examples of this are the sub funds for the Mirboo North Swimming Pool and Chaplaincy and Well-begins Program at Mirboo North’s primary and secondary schools.

The Community Foundation has built up and encourages membership, which is open to everyone in the area. We encourage those who are interested in the ‘big picture’ to join up. Members are also encouraged to volunteer if they wish; as an ‘ambassador’, member of a sub-committee or to share skills.

In ten years the Community Foundation has granted more than $1.4 million into our close community. Over 70 different community or not-for-profit organisations have been funding recipients, located in Mirboo North, Boolarra, Dumbalk, Thorpdale, Narracan, Yinnar and Allambee.

Funding has been well invested into the areas of Environment, Education, Youth, Health and Well-being, Arts and Culture and Community Strengthening. This ensures that there are opportunities to support local people to develop solutions, build capacity and share skills in the community.

In 2020, the Community Foundation celebrates 10 years of inspiring local people to do great things through philanthropy. We gratefully thank those with the foresight who helped turn the Community Aged Care assets into a future fund for the benefit of the whole district.
