Community Bus

mn community bus transperent

Mirboo North is very lucky to have its very own Community Bus Service. The neat and tidy 12-seater bus is available to hire for all community groups or private individuals who reside within our district.  It is a well-maintained bus, thoroughly insured and has RACV Roadside Assist.

This 12-seater bus, housed at the Community Shed, is a fantastic resource which simply:

  • Requires a driver who has had an Australian driving licence for at least two years and is over 25 years of age (an insurance requirement).
  • All drivers must remain at zero alcohol level.
  • Price of hire is very reasonable at $0.85 cents per kilometre, and includes a tank of fuel.

History of the Bus

The Community Bus is jointly owned and operated by the Community Foundation and the Mirboo North Community Shed, who took it over from the RSL.  The RSL had operated this service with two buses for a good number of years, and we thank them for providing this service. It was agreed that if the Community Foundation would take ownership of the Community Bus, and manage the financial and insurance side, the Community Shed would house the bus, manage its maintenance and of course be the point of contact for all community use.

South Gippsland Shire has also been generous in the donation of a fuel card to the Community Bus, which covers the tank of fuel for each user.

If you haven’t used the Community Bus before, don’t be daunted.  Give Di Kiddell a call and she will talk you through the process, which includes:

  • completing necessary paperwork;
  • picking up keys;
  • giving instructions on how to use the bus;
  • and instructions around how to make hire payment.

The Community Bus’ dedicated phone number is 0490 057 880.

Calling all Volunteer Bus Drivers!

Some community groups do not have a driver amongst them.  If that is the case, there is a dedicated league of committed volunteer bus drivers, led by Volunteer Bus Coordinator (and chief organiser) Di Kiddell.

However, there is always room for more volunteer bus drivers.  If you are local to the area, are experienced in bus driving or would like to learn about how to become a volunteer bus driver, please contact Di for more information.

If you can be punctual (for the seniors), have good driving experience and are willing to help users get on and off the bus using excellent people skills, then please reach out and join the league of impressive Mirboo North community bus drivers today.
