The Community Foundation’s story on display at Mirboo North Library

This time last year the Community Foundation launched a book telling its origin story, called ‘From Rural Health to Community Strengthening’.  This book was written by Dr. Julie Fenley after much research and takes the reader from the Bush Nursing Hospital set up in 1932 through to the Aged Care facility set up in the 1990s and the Community Foundation in 2010, and then to date.

Celebrating Local History

As Julie explains: “The book captures the story of a self-reliant and service minded regional community over 90 years.  It is not just the organisation’s origin story but a story of what shapes and forms a strong community, both through the eyes and voices of 27 local individuals and the extensive records of the Mirboo & District Historical Society and other sources.”

Explore the Past at the Mirboo North Library Display

If you haven’t had the opportunity to read the book, which received a commendation at the Victorian Community History Awards 2023, four copies are now available through the MyLi – Mirboo North and Leongatha Libraries.  To celebrate its arrival at the Mirboo North Library, the Mirboo & District Historical Society have kindly put up a display, including articles and images from 1932 to date.

The display will be in place for a couple of weeks, thanks to the Mirboo North library team, so make sure you drop in to the library to have a look – you can even stay for a cup of tea.

The Mirboo North Library is open Tuesday 2pm – 6pm, Wednesday 2pm – 6pm, Thursday 10am – 6pm and Saturday 9.30am – 1pm (unless you have 24 hour access which is available upon registration).
