What would your community organisation do with a grant of $5,000?

We are blessed with a very active community in this area.  The many community organisations not only connect us, they teach us, entertain us, keep us active, protect our history, secure our environment, build assets, and keep facilities and services running for the benefit of us all.

The Mirboo North & District Community Foundation’s annual Community Grants Program 2022 is there to support the activities of these community groups through providing funds to assist them in their work, to bring new ideas and projects to life.

“Each year it is exciting to approve grant applications for amazing projects which community groups intend to roll out,” says Ruth Rogan, Executive Officer. “The enthusiasm and dedication which local people bring to their projects, giving their time and energy to strengthen their area, is inspirational.”

Over the last 12 years, the Community Foundation has distributed $1.6 million in grants and sponsorship across our district, which includes Mirboo North, Thorpdale, Yinnar, Boollarra, Dumbalk, Allambee and many rural communities in between.  The bulk of these funds have gone to local community organisations to bring good projects to life.

One successful grant recipient from 2021 was the Boolarra Old School Museum. This grant funded one of many upgrades to the museum.
As Linda Minter, Secretary, explains: ‘With the upgrades, we hope to welcome more people into the museum and the historical society. Museum open days area held once a month featuring recorded interviews and a slide show of five hundred old photos.’

If you have an idea for something you could do in your community, give Ruth a call on 0418 301 092 or have a look at www.mirboodistrictfoundation.org.au.  The application process may seem daunting, but it is pretty easy and we can assist where needed.
