Community Grant in action at the Mirboo North CFA

New Trauma Kits Funded by Community Grant

Two new First Aid Trauma Kits have recently been added to the equipment at the Mirboo North CFA brigade thanks to a grant from the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation
The addition of these kits enhances the ability of our local brigade to respond to serious injury if they are first on the scene of an accident or emergency.

The CFA Fire Brigade is often a volunteer organisation which is highly valued in rural and regional areas.  This is definitely the case for the local Mirboo North Fire Brigade which has not only supported the local communities through many serious fire seasons but was also at the heart of the emergency response to the devastating impact of the February 2024 storm.

Why Trauma Kits Were Needed

Having considered their incident data, it was recognised by the local brigade that accidents which they respond to are often serious and a standard first aid kit was not sufficient if Ambulance Victoria was not yet on the scene.

“It is often the case that Mirboo North CFA is first on scene of at an emergency and our ability to provide suitable first aid until Ambulance Victoria can take over is very valuable for the impacted individuals.  These trauma-oriented First Aid Kits mean that our volunteers have the resources on hand to do this,” says Trent Venten, Captain.

The thoughtful addition of these kits on Mirboo North’s fire trucks, which complement existing first aid resources, has been done in liaison with Ambulance Victoria.

“We have worked with Ambulance Victoria to understand what the kits should contain and to develop training around their use,” explains Doug Parke, Community Engagement Officer.

“These kits will save lives when used in combination with enhanced first-aid certifications.”

Ruth Rogan, Exec. Office of the Community Foundation was delighted to hear that this community grant was now in operation in the community.

“Thanks again to the Mirboo North CFA volunteers for their commitment and professionalism in all the work they do to support our community in so many different ways,” she added.
