Supporting long-term community recovery, resilience and rebuilding following the February 2024 storm event
Community-led recovery in action
In the days following the February 2024 storm event, the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation established the Community Recovery Fund to help coordinate financial support for immediate and long-term recovery efforts across the district.
Since then, the Fund has received almost $95,000 in donations from individuals, businesses, community organisations and government, with more than $75,000 already distributed back into local recovery projects and initiatives. These have included support for Storm Cell Volunteers, wellbeing and mental health programs, community events, environmental recovery projects, youth initiatives, emergency response training, local facilities and practical assistance for community groups and residents impacted by the storm.
"The recovery effort has highlighted the strength, generosity and resilience of the community"

Investing in resilience and future recovery
Recovery has extended far beyond clean-up efforts alone. Funding has supported projects focused on wellbeing, environmental restoration, community connection, emergency preparedness and strengthening local resilience into the future.
Community-led initiatives including Safe Sawing in the Boo, Plant Hope, community gatherings, youth wellbeing programs, biodiversity projects and volunteer support have all played an important role in helping the district recover and reconnect. The Community Recovery Fund continues to support projects that strengthen the social, environmental and practical resilience of the Mirboo North district as recovery efforts continue.
