Opportunity for local students to join Youthrive Programs

An exciting opportunity is now open for two local year 12 students to take part in Youthrive Victoria’s Mentoring and Leadership Programs, as well as their Rural Youth Network in 2026.
These programs are designed by young people for young people to support year 12 students that are making the transition to University and TAFE.

Supporting Local Students Beyond Year 12

This opportunity will enable students in our district to build valuable support networks, develop personal skills and connect with other rural young people who are moving or have moved into University or TAFE from across Victoria.

These programs acknowledge that rural students not only face financial challenges in the transition to tertiary education.  Two significant challenges are the loss of existing support networks and the difficulties of navigating large educational institutions like Uni and TAFE, with very different educational methodologies to our secondary schools,” explains Ruth Rogan, Executive Officer of the Community Foundation. “The Youthrive Mentoring program and the Rural Youth Network were designed by young people to surmount those challenges.”

A key part of the Youthrive program is attendance at the Young Rural Leaders Camp, an immersive five-day experience, which will build confidence and lifelong friendships, strengthen leadership and teamwork skills.  The camp is entirely free, includes accommodation (at Mt Evelyn Discovery Camp), meals and activities, and takes place from January 19th to January 23rd, 2026.

Building Confidence, Community and Pathways to Tertiary Study

This life-changing opportunity for two local students is funded by the Mirboo North Lions Club, in partnership with the Community Foundation’s Education Support Program.   The Mirboo North Lions have long been committed to empowering local young people, financially supporting both the Mirboo North Primary School and the Mirboo North Secondary College each year.  This partnership extends their support to students going on to tertiary education.

The most enduring legacy a community can build is through the education of its young people,” explains Leatha Peters, President of the Mirboo North Lions.  “The skills, confidence and connections gained through this program will stay with our local young people for life.”

If you or a year 12 student you know would be keen to take up this exciting opportunity,  email us on info@mirboodistrictfoundation.org.au by Friday 21st November.  Interested students can find out more about the Youthrive Victoria programs on https://www.youthrivevictoria.org.au/
