Give Local – See the Impact

One third of the individual tax-payers in our postcode make tax deductible donations each year, according to statistics from the ATO.  In the 2020/21 financial year (the most recent data we have) that amounted to a total of $230,000 of tax-deductible donations across the 3871 postcode.

No matter what you are giving, your time or your money, whether a small or large amount, it is worth considering giving locally.  Giving locally not only supports the people and organisations you know and love, it allows you to see the impact of your donation in action.

The Community Foundation, which is registered to give tax deductible receipts to donors, ensures all donations are targeted at areas of need in the community using its local knowledge and strong relationships to work with partners who are tackling those needs effectively.

“We can put your donation to good use,” says Rob Kiddell, Chair of the Community Foundation, “because we have the connections and understanding of the community needs and who is tackling them.  If you give through your community foundation it also means that you could have a collective impact that is bigger than just your donation.”

Donations to the Community Foundation can go into a specified area that is important to you, or into existing funds that are already tackling current priorities like, the Financial Hardship Fund, the Chaplaincy and Well-being fund, the Education Support Fund or the Seniors Fund.

“In practice, a donation to the Financial Hardship Fund would support local food hamper distribution, the back-to-school needs of local families and the costs of camps and educational experiences for young people who would otherwise miss out,” explains Ruth Rogan, Executive Officer.  “Or a donation to the Education Support Fund will give financial support to students to access tertiary education, leadership skills and mentoring support, making a meaningful difference not only to their future but the future of our district.”

Over the coming weeks, we will outline in more detail the fantastic work that is being done to strengthen our community, supported by donations to the Community Foundation.  If you are looking at making a tax-deductible donation before the end of the year, take a look at our website here, or give Ruth Rogan a call on 0418 301 092 to find out more.
