Have an Impact in your Community

Community Foundations are not about one single cause; we are about a place and its people – about the communities of the towns of Mirboo North, Thorpdale, Yinnar, Boolarra, Dumbalk and the many rural communities in between.  We are about making those communities stronger through giving, facilitating and investing.

If you want to have an impact in the community you love at the end of this financial year, you can make a tax-deductible donation towards something you care about through an existing fund within the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation:  our Future Fund, our Education Support Fund, the Chaplaincy and Well-being Fund or the recently created Mirboo North Community Seniors Fund.  Or you can choose how your giving benefits the local community by making a donation for a particular purpose.

When you give to a Community Foundation, your donations are invested so that they can grow and earn interest that becomes a reliable, long term funding stream for local needs.  When the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation was set up in 2010 it started with $5 million which was invested in a diversified portfolio.  10 years later, the funds under management have grown to $8 million with $1.4 million having gone back into the community in grants.

To give an example, last month we received a generous donation of over $4,000 to go into our Mirboo North Seniors Fund.  This anonymous donation brings this fund to a value of $50,000.  This $50,000 is invested by the Community Foundation (as part of its larger portfolio) and will earn approximately $2,500 each and every year, which will go towards projects addressing the needs of our senior citizens (whatever those are at that time, in ten, fifty or a hundred years time).

You can have an impact in your community by making a tax-deductible donation to one of our existing funds: our Future Fund (essentially an untied donation to support the needs of the community over time, whether it is the redevelopment of local facilities, tackling social challenges or investing in our health and well-being to choose some recent examples), our Education Support Fund (supporting students transitioning to tertiary education, our Chaplaincy and Well-being Fund (supporting student well-being in the Mirboo North Schools) or the Mirboo North Community Seniors Fund
