The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is the independent national regulator of charities, whose principal aim is to maintain, protect and enhance public trust and confidence in the sector through increased accountability and transparency.  As such it

· registers organisations as charities

· helps charities understand and meet their obligations through information, guidance, advice and other support

· helps the public understand the work of the not-for profit sector through information, guidance, advice and other support

· maintains a free and searchable public register so that anyone can look up information about registered charities

The ACNC has recently released its new report on charity compliance focused on 2015 and 2016, which outlines its role, the compliance activities during this period, the ACNC’s compliance approach, handling concerns, the Compliance focus for2017-9, some Compliance Case Studies and Support and Guidance.  It is a must read for all charities and not-for-profits.
