Visitors to Baromi Park will notice a wonderful new addition outside the Mirboo North Grainstore – a hand crafted, five metre long, wooden table with matching bench seating. More than just a piece of furniture, this table, which seats up to 20 people, is set to become a gathering place for locals and visitors alike, offering a welcoming spot to sit with family and friends, chat, share a coffee or simply take in the park’s beautiful atmosphere.
The project to replace the previous table (a well loved but completely degraded wooden setting) with this community table came from a conversation between the Grainstore Committee and the Wednesday Warriors. The Grainstore Committee were keen to replace the picnic bench as it extends the usage of the space to the outdoor area that actually lies within the Grainstore’s land title. However, it was an expensive project when costed and there were a number of aspects of the Grainstore needing prompt attention. The Wednesday Warriors offered to take on this project if the Grainstore could find the funds to cover the cost of the materials.
The project was made possible through funding received by the Grainstore from the Mirboo North Recovery Fund at the Community Foundation. This fund, made up of donations from individuals, community groups, businesses and government, continues to support a wide range of projects across the community.
The Grainstore is hugely grateful for the hard work and skills of the Wednesday Warriors that brought the table to life. With their trademark community spirit, the Wednesday Warriors designed and built the long table and benches on site, taking a moment to fully refresh the street-facing garden bed too. Their work reflects not only functionality and durability, but a deep pride in creating something that will serve the whole community for years to come. It was lovely to take a moment to thank them over morning tea at the community table last week, fitting the whole group comfortably.
