Members Meeting June 2018 Update

Members Meeting Canva June

New Members Morning Tea

We know that our members are keen to have a better understanding of the Community Foundation and what is happening operationally.  For new members this is even more important, as they also learn about the concept and activities of a Community Foundation.  The informal morning tea was to welcome new members, but also to bridge the understanding gap for new members, with the idea that our community e-newsletter and our quarterly update to members will keep everyone up to date on an on-going basis.

Paul Pratt, Chair of the Community Foundation, Kate Buxton and Rob Kiddell (Directors) and Ruth Rogan (Executive Officer) shared their insights and socialised with the new members whilst enjoying tea and cake.

Members Meeting

We had a lovely gathering of 30 members and 6 guests at our recent Members Meeting at the Baromi Centre on a chilly winter’s evening. The topics covered by the four speakers included: Vital Signs, the Mirboo North Swimming Pool and its new Fund, a free workshop for members on using ‘Canva’ (a graphic design tool) and an Impact story.

Once the presentations were over, there was a delicious light supper prepared by local caterer, Elisa Brooke, and some socialising. As the hum of chatter died down, three side table conversations started, to supplement the topics covered by the speakers:

Vital Signs
Kate Buxton and Anne Marie Dieperink held one side table conversation about Mirboo North & District’s Vital Signs with a large group of members. Kate and Anne Marie are the joint project managers, and it was fantastic to see the high level of interest and engagement by our members with them and with this project.

If you would like to find out more, please email us on mirboonorthdistrict@vitalsignsaustralia.org.au ;or keep an eye out for further communications.

Mirboo North Swimming Pool Fund
Tonia Wright and Fred Couper had a second side table conversation about the redevelopment of the Mirboo North Swimming Pool and how to donate to the new sub-fund set up by the Community Foundation, the Mirboo North Swimming Pool Fund.   Tonia and Fred had the detailed designs for the redevelopment which had been prepared for South Gippsland Shire Council, which was of interest to many members.

Canva Workshop

Viv Williams had the third side table conversation about Canva, a graphic design platform which is easy to use and makes the development of visual content accessible. Following on from last year’s capacity building workshop for community groups (Demystifying Social Media), Viv announced a funded Canva workshop to take place at the end of August.

As per our last workshop we will be offering the 12 places to our members first, but then they will be offered to community members.   Seven spots were snapped up at our Member’s meeting, and some more through our Members Update, but if you are interested, please e-mail Viv at admin@mirboodistrictfoundation.org.au.  There are two spots left!
