Giving to support local need: the Kindness Tree at Mirboo North Wholelife Pharmacy

The festive season has arrived in Mirboo North, and with it a wonderful opportunity for locals to spread a little kindness where it’s needed most. Continuing its tradition of supporting the local community, the Mirboo North WholeLife Pharmacy and Health Foods has set up a Kindness Tree – a simple but powerful way for community members to support neighbours doing it tough.

How the Kindness Tree Works

The idea is beautifully straightforward. For a donation of $2, $5 or $10, shoppers receive a bright, cheerful bauble to write their name on and stick to the in-store Kindness Tree. As the tree fills, it becomes a colourful symbol of the compassion that runs deep in our community.

All funds raised through this Kindness Tree will go directly to the Mirboo North & District Community Foundation’s Financial Hardship Fund, ensuring that every donation goes back into supporting local families.

Where Your Donation Makes a Difference

Donations to the Financial Hardship Fund help support several vital programs across our district:

· Back to School Vouchers for families who attend the local primary and secondary schools in our area, easing the cost of essential school supplies as the new school year begins.

· School Welfare Funds provided to each local school, each year, for their welfare teams to target at those students and families who need help with everyday school expenses such as camps, excursions and school materials – giving all young people the chance to participate fully in school life.

· Food Relief Services like Hope N Help and Hope Kitchen, which provide much-needed boxes of fresh food, home-made meals and pantry staples to residents experiencing hardship.

With cost-of-living pressures continuing to affect many local households, these supports are more important than ever. The Kindness Tree offers a simple way for anyone to contribute – whether you’re grabbing a prescription, picking up a gift, or just popping in to say hello.

“The Community Foundation is thrilled that the Financial Hardship Fund has been chosen by the Mirboo North Wholelife Pharmacy and Health Foods team to receive these community donations,” says Ruth Rogan, Executive Officer of the Community Foundation. “As the baubles multiply, so does the reminder that small actions, when added together, can make a big difference.”

So next time you’re in town, consider stopping by the pharmacy and adding your own bauble to the tree. Your $2, $5 or $10 donation will help brighten the season for local families.
